Who am I? I ask myself that all the time. The truth is—it changes day to day. But I’m working on figuring it out, and art is part of that process.
Hi, I’m Mary Beth Mendoza — a painter based in Chicago, originally from the beach town of Brant Rock, Massachusetts. My work is rooted in a love for nature and a lifelong fascination with bright colors and interesting textures. I paint landscapes, flowers, and wildlife using a mix of traditional paint and mixed media — sometimes incorporating found objects that add depth, story, and a sense of discovery to each piece.
My art is inspired by the places that bring me peace: the rhythm of waves, the stillness of mountain air, and the small, quiet beauty in the natural world. I strive to translate these feelings into vibrant, expressive works that invite you to pause, reflect, and connect.
With a background in art history, graphic design, and creative leadership across many fields — from running a bakery to managing operations at Apple — I bring a layered and thoughtful perspective to my creative practice. When I’m not painting, you’ll find me volunteering as a Guest Engagement Volunteer at the Lincoln Park Zoo, working with animals, or enjoying the meditative calm of woodworking.
Thanks for visiting. I hope my art brings a little beauty and joy into your life.
